General Silk Care Silk is a luxurious fiber and will last a long time if given the proper care. Always use a mild soap when washing. Please check labels and do not use any harsh chemicals or bleach as they will damage the silk fiber. We suggest LeBlanc Silk and Lingerie Wash or a similar silk friendly soap. (We carry a small 2oz size if you wish to try this product.) Please remember brighter colors may run during the first washings, so wash separately. If the care label says machine wash: Wash in cool water using a gentle cycle. Air or machine dry on low. Remove promptly from the dryer. The heat from the dryer is very hard on silk, so please do not over heat or over-dry. Some products need to be dry cleaned as noted on the care label -- machine washing and or drying will damage the product. Silk Filled Products (comforters, pillows, etc.) Silk Filled products cannot be machine washed. We recommend that you air out the item, away from direct sunlight. Spot clean as needed. If cleaning is required, the item needs to be professionally dry-cleaned. Please make sure your dry cleaner understands that the item is 100% silk inside and out. To ensure the life of the silk filled comforter we suggest covering it with a washable silk cover. The manufacturer has a long history in the silk industry and can easily recognize the signs of improper washing & drying in a silk fabric.Returns will not be accepted on improperly cared for products . Charmeuse Silk- known as the silk of the emperors, charmeuse silk is shiny and very smooth. It has an elegant luster and beautiful drape. Not to be confused with polyester satin. Habotai- lightweight, lustrous, and very soft the word habotai comes from the Japanese for “soft as down.” Jacquard Silk- an intricate weaving method to create complex designs in the fabric. It provides a beautiful combination of shiny and matte tone on tone finishes. Knit Silk- a smooth jersey type silk perfect for layering and lightweight garments. Momme- (pronounced mummy) refers to silk weight. The higher the momme, the heavier the weight. The width of a single silk filament is so fine that there are thousands of threads per square inch. Often five to eight filaments are twisted together to make silk threads thicker and stronger. So using a weight measurement is far more accurate then measuring by thread count. Noil Silk - sometimes called raw silk. It is untreated and has a flannel-like texture.
